This blog has sort of transformed into the 88 WIP blog. Which is only right considering it's become my prime means of expressing myself.
I've been fuss'n and o' frett'n about the format of the book.
I want to do it as a full graphic novel but I still have a hard on for the monthly comic.
What can I say. I grew up on it and it's still very attractive to me.
It's like a one night stand. Not much to think about and it's over before you know it.
I've been all over the internet reading what peeps saying about format.
Graphic novels seem to be the only way an Indie cat can catch a break.
With all the World War Countdowns and death of Cap or Flash...there is barely any room or retailer money for a monthly indie book..that does not come from Image and is written by Robert Kirkman. Love that guy. I pimp him so fucking much he should kick me back some cash. I'm pretty sure I've sold at least 6 or 7 of those big ass Invincible hard covers.
It must suck to have written the best Zombie comic ever and have it come out at the same time as the best fucking Zombie novel of all time. World War Z rocks so much harder than Walking Dead.
It begs the question...Can you really have enough Zombie media?..
I say thee nay...
but I read the last Walking Dead and I do believe the Shark has jumped the building...it's finally made that ugly genre leap between Zombie and Post Apocalyptic.
You usually never see what happens in a Zombie story beyond a week or so...and I guess that's where they lost me. Once the ex cop got his...oh maybe I shouldn't spoil it for those who have not read it...
Next blog I'll bitch about something else related to 88...Or perhaps I'll just have a nervous breakdown. Either or I hope it's entertaining.
Until than enjoy this image. I had fun making it..and I hope you have fun looking at it.
Image info: Color WIP. Dialog is from an earlier page but I felt it captured one aspect of the story so I cut and pasted it on there in typical mash up fashion.

I went a little bit nuts on the inks on this piece. I was going for a modern stab at the old Terry Austin look. I always loved his inks back in the day.
I'm also playing around with some color schemes for the main character Detective Drake. If you notice he is wearing red shoes. They are meant to be Air Jordan I's so don't be alarmed.
This book is either going to make me or break me I think. Not in terms of how people react to it. I'm thinking more about how I come through it as a person. So far this book has been the biggest challenge I've ever faced artistically. I'm a bit concerned that I've bitten off more than I can chew. I guess you never really know until the plane is on fire and you are speeding towards the ground and the ejection seat won't work!
